A photo hangs on the wall here at The BYRD’S Nest that shows a nostalgic scene from a timeless classic: Bruce Brown’s “The Endless Summer.” The particular scene is that of Mike Hinson and Robert August walking through an airport dressed in black tuxedos, holding a briefcase in one hand and their surfboards in the other. Their hair is slicked and their posture straight. The Gentlemen Surfer. The Father’s of Slick. And so it inspired us at BYRD to team up with The Black Tux and photographer Steven Lippman to recreate the idea from this photo, taking it into the ocean itself.
